Kamke – Zverev

Tobias Kamke Alexander Zverev betting previewGerman matchup in the quarterfinals at Hamburg, as Tobias Kamke takes on teenager sensation Alexander Zverev. It`s the second match between the two in space of two weeks, with Zverev winning the last encounter on 30 June in Braunschweig.

Kamke did not have a good year, he had 1-2 good tournaments here and there but that`s it. He was on a 3 match losing streak prior to Hamburg and, like usual, he is trying to stay in the TOP 100. His performance in Hamburg comes just at the right time, but despite his quarterfinal run I was not all that impressed with Tobias. He played well, above his level, but he did not show a truly impressive level of tennis. Kamke won in 3 sets against Nieminen in the 1st round, beat a shaky Delbonis in straight sets next, and finally he got a famous win over Dolgopolov in a deciding set, but we all know how inconsistent Dolgopolov is. The Ukrainean was all over Kamke in the 2nd set, but in the other two he had less rhythm, made unforced errors and Kamke took advantage.

The younger brother of Mischa Zverev, Alexander, is starting to look like the best young gun in tennis since Grigor Dimitrov. He has broken all kinds of age records in his impressive road to the quarters, beating Haase, Youzhny and Giraldo along the way without even losing a single set! The 17 year old is in the form of his life, winning the strong Braunschweig challenger title two weeks ago (having solid opposition) and playing a very good match against Rosol in the Stuttgart first round, even though Rosol eventually won in two tiebreaks (and went on to reach the final). Zverev has a very good serve and a solid, stable and aggressive baseline play, with the backhand as his best shot.

The H2H is 1-0 and the only meeting between the two could not be more relevant: as I said, Zverev won 2 weeks ago, on clay, in Germany, in very similar conditions. Of course no match is similar to another, but the 6-4 7-6 win surely must give Zverev an edge and some confidence today.

I don’t see Kamke stopping this wonderking. Tobias is not a particularly good level of play, he deserved to be in the quarters but it`s hard to see him going further. Zverev played much better tennis this week and he is in much better form over the last few weeks. Alexander is showing great consistency and composure for his age, expect him to keep serving well and not concede too many break points opportunities, while looking to force errors from Kamke when the ball is in play. Simply put, Zverev is the better player at the moment, playing better tennis and he should win. Considering the stability he showed against much seasoned players than Kamke, I am not so worried about his age. My tip is Zverev to win. Odds are going down big time on the youngsters, so you might want to take the bet early. Considering all the factors, I think 9 units is an appropriate stake, despite my form and Zverev’s youth. Prediction: Tobias Kamke – Alexander Zverev 7-6 4-6 2-6.
