Tomas Berdych and Marius Copil will square off in the last match of the day in Stockholm, with a place in the semifinals up for grabs.
Berdych was struggling to find his rythhm between Roland Garros and the US Open this season but with the start of the Asian swing it seems the Czech finally regained his usual level of tennis. Tomas seemed to lack power and consistency in the last few months but played very well in Beijing, demolishing opponents before being blown off the court himself by Djokovic in the final. Berdych followed that up with a quarterfinal in Shanghai, defeating Gasquet and Karlovic before losing to eventual finalist Simon. Here in Stockholm he had a bye in the first round and put on an energy-saving performance in the second, calmly defeating Brown 7-5 6-3.

Copil is an interesting player, he has great potential and owns a huge serve but he just can`t get his act together to play consistent tennis. This is his best tournament of the season, on par with Brisbane where he had a similar run, passing qualies and losing in the quarters to Hewitt (defeating Simon on the way). He also had a superb match against Dimitrov in Madrid, almost winning against an in-form Bulgarian. Copil was in absolutely horrible form before Stokholm, losing week after week in the first round in challengers, but he suddenly found his best level and he managed to get past qualies, beat Sousa and than beat Herbert yesterday. He lost only 1 set and got broken only 1 time (both in the Sousa match). Surely his good form has a lot to do with the fact that Indoor Hard is his best surface, he had success in this period of the year in the past (defeated Cilic 2 years ago).
The two playes met just one tine and it was this year at Dubai, with Berdych easily winning 6-3 6-4, but Copil is in a different kind of form now. The matchup analysis will say that Berydch played excellent lately against big servers and that both players love this surface.
Listen, there`s a huge quality gap here but Copil has the game to challenge and defeat even top 20 guys when he`s in form and he proved it many times in his career. I think a first set tiebreak is a top, top value bet for this game. Copil has a fantastic serve that is working perfectly right now and he`ll surely give all he`s got in the first set, while Berdych might be a little slow to start and try to save some energy. Tomas is fighting for a place in the World Tour finals and he`ll surely win this, but with Copil`s form, motivation and huge serve plus the Indoor Hard surface, a first set tiebreak could happen and that is my tip here. The odds are simply brilliant and 5-6 units can bring us a massive return of investment. Simple analysis really, don`t know how it ended up so long. Prediction: Tomas Berdych – Marius Copil 7-6 6-3.
