Tommy Robredo and Andreas Seppi will square off in the second round at the ATP 500 event in Halle.
Robredo had an awful season considering his standards, posting a modest 9-9 win-loss record on the ATP tour. Switching on grass surely didn`t provide Tommy with too much confidence, as this is his worst surface, despite him getting some occasional good results on the green (mainly because of the surface being slowed down, but in Halle it`s faster). His improper game for grass could be clearly seen in the first round. Robredo barely edged a totally out of form Berankis in a thriller decided by a third set tiebreak.
Seppi dominated Tommy Haas in the first round, the 7-5 6-2 win being rather impressive for a grass-shy Seppi – despite Haas being just back on the tour and not at his best level. It was the third match on the green for Seppi this year, as he also played last week in Stuttgart, reaching the second round (def. Becker, lost to M. Zverev). While Seppi is not a grass court player, he has a good record on the surface and actually won a title in his career on the green, reaching another final (both in Eastbourne).

Robredo leads the Head 2 Head 7-3, winning the last 4 meetings, including one this year, on clay. However, all these 4 wins needed a deciding set and the two players never met on grass, so the 7-3 advantage looks worse than it actually is coming into this match.
Seppi is having a slightly better season than Robredo, he has more matches under his belt on grass this year and played much better than Tommy in the first round. He`s also the better player on grass courts, so the Head 2 Head is pretty much the only disadvantage for him coming into this match – but the 7-3 advantage for Tommy (which is not really fair due to the tightness of most matches) is not due to the matchup, but simply because Robredo is a better player. However, at his age and in his current form, he might not be the better player anymore.
My tip is Seppi to win, he holds all the weapons here and should qualify into the third round. Prediction: Tommy Robredo – Andreas Seppi 5-7 6-4 2-6.
