Robredo – Ferrer

Tommy Robredo David Ferrer betting preview CincinnatiAll Spaniard clash in the Cincinnati quarterfinals as David Ferrer takes on the “Novak Djokovic slayer” Tommy Robredo.

Robredo produced a colossal upset to take out the world number 1 Djokovic in the last round, an impressive performance despite the fact that Djokovic was obviously not playing his best tennis. Robredo is not usually good on hard courts, especially on fast ones like the ones here at Cincy, but he really stepped it up this week to play some excellent tennis – beating Sock, Querrey and Djokovic in straight sets, all of them very dangerous players. Robredo is making virtually no mistakes right now and keeps on pounding from the baseline until the opponent collapses. He playes a good tournament last week in Toronto, beating Kohlschreiber and Simon before falling in 3 tight sets to Dimitrov.

David Ferrer was not at his best lately but had a good run at Toronto where he lost in the quarters to Federer, managing to take a set from the World number 3. Here in Cincinnati he downed Kohlschreiber in 3 set thriller, with all sets going to tiebreaks, and then started very poor against Youzhny in the next round only to defeat the Russian 7-5 6-0 by winning 11 consecutive games! David looked extremely sharp after going down 2-5 to Youzhny and barely put a foot wrong until the end of the match – surely a great confidence boost for him.

Ferrer has a clear edge in the H2H department, where he leads 7-2 (1-0 on hard) and has destroyed Tommy in the last three meetings. There`s no secret that Ferrer knows how to play Robredo, he can counter his tennis, I bet Robredo knows this himself and this is a huge factor in the analysis.

There`s little separating these two right now and I was inclined to back Robredo to win for value, but the H2H speaks volumes and I have to give Ferrer the first chance. Robredo is in top form and has played better tennis this week, but Ferrer knows how to play him, he`s the better overall player and he`s playing very well himself. This should be a very long match, most likely with 3 sets to show for. Robredo will fight his heart out and play top class tennis in the beginning, but Ferrer will learn to contain him like he always does and will eventually win. My tip is over 2,5 sets, excellent odds on this bet. Prediction: Tommy Robredo – David Ferrer 6-4 6-7 3-6.
