Tottenham – Chelsea

Tottenham Chelsea preview

Tottenham and Chelsea will square off in a meeting between Premier League’s most in form teams and the odds reflect how evenly matched this clash is, at least on paper.

Spurs have hit a great run of form recently, claiming 4 wins in a row and playing excellent football at the same time. 3 of the 4 wins came by a form of handicap and Spurs scored 13 goals in the process. The last two victories came away from home against Southampton and Watford, with Tottenham winning both of those 4-1. A win today over Chelsea would see Spurs climb to a Top 4 position.

Chelsea has won an incredible 13 consecutive games in the Premier League, tying Arsenal’s long time record. The Blues can break the record with a victory at White Hart Lane, but this will definitely be their toughest game since they started the winning streak. Chelsea is now 5 points ahead of the second placed Liverpool with a game in hand and is coming after a 4-2 home win against Stoke City.

Team news & lineups:

Both teams area healthy and can field their best lineups, even though there are doubts over Lamela (Tottenham) and Terry, Alonso (Chelsea).

Tottenham: Lloris – Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose – Wanyama, Dembele – Sissoko, Alli, Eriksen – Kane

Chelsea: Courtois – Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz – Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso – Willian (Pedro), Costa, Hazard

Even if Manchester United racked up more wins in a row than Tottenham recently, Chelsea and Spurs are the most in form teams in the Premier League, playing the best football right now. It`s hard to see any of them lose a game and I think there`s a good chance that both will see their undefeated run continue.

Not only is it very hard to separate the two right now, but a draw would make sense for each side. After winning so many games, Chelsea won`t be upset with a point on the road against one of the best teams in the league – especially as Liverpool failed to win earlier this round. As for Tottenham, stopping Chelsea’s winning run would be a positive result, even if Spurs have home court advantage. What`s more, both these sides are very organized and hard to break down, so that always helps a draw.

The two teams met less than 6 weeks ago at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea won 2-1 in a very tight encounter. Tottenham’s improved form and home court advantage should be enough for them to avoid a loss this time, but at the same time it looks really difficult for anybody to defeat Chelsea right now.

I think it`s hard to argue that the draw is the result with the highest probability here, so I`m happy to back it at odds way over 3.00. Personally I would have priced it slightly below 3.00. I will bet on the draw. Prediction: Tottenham – Chelsea 1-1.
