Udinese – Cesena

Udinese hosts Cesena at Stadio Friuli in the fourth round of the Coppa Italia. Both teams trying to get back to winning after very poor recent results.

Udinese lost 2-0 at AC Milan in the weekend and it was the 5th consecutive game in which they failed to win, and the 8th in the last 9. Clearly Udinese is having some problems because they met some teams that they should really beat like Chievo at home recently, but still could not get the three points … after this bad run, Udinese blew their good start of the season and dropped to the 9th place. Team news for today say that Badu, Gabrilel Silva, Domizzi and Muriel are out and coach Stramaccioni could also emply some other changes in the lineup … most notably he will probably rest captain Di Natale.

Cesena is actually in a much worse situation than Udinese … 19th place in Serie A with only 8 points in 13 matches and are on a horrible 13 match winless streak! Their last win was in August. In the weekend Cesena lost 3-0 at home to Genoa and things are not looking good at all for this team. Being involved in a dogfight to avoid relegation in the Serie A, Cesena will probably opt to rest a couple of players for this game vs. Udinese. Visitors can draw confidence from the fact that they held a full strength Udinese side to a 1-1 draw at Friuli less than 2 months ago.

Two teams in very bad shape in a match that they probably don’t even want to play … I can see an ugly game with under 2,5 goals and that will be my tip. Cesena is dirt poor and can not score against anyone, let alone a very hard road game at Friuli, while Udinese is totally out of form and will have a hard time creating chances themselves … especially with Di Natale probably out of the game.
