Valencia hosts Real Sociedad in the traditional early Sunday game in La Liga.
Valencia gained excellent ground in the race for the 4th place after 3 consecutive wins … they were neck and neck with Sevilla for the whole season but now they are finally asserting themselves as the 4th best team in La Liga … 5 points ahead of Sevilla, mainly thanks to the win in the direct meeting 5 rounds ago. It was also a confidence boost and now Valencia is on a three game winning streak, last time 2-1 at Cordoba. The good form can also be attributed to most players coming back from injury and now Valencia has a healthy squad … only Paco Alcacer will be out of the lineup for the “Los Che” today.

Real Sociedad are in good form themselves, undefeated in 3 matches and coming after a fantastic 4-3 win against Sevilla. At first David Moyes seemVed to have made this team play more defensive oriented football, but Sociedad scored no less than 7 goals in the last 4 matches, also conceding 6. They seem to play more freely without any objective left this season, but they are still unable to break the ice away from home: Sociedad is the only team with ZERO wins on the road in La Liga this season (6 draws, 5 losses). Martinez, Vela, Gonzalez, Zurutuza and possibly Elustondo will miss from Sociedad’s lineups today.
The hosts have an excellent record of 10 wins in 12 matches at home and with their current form and health, they do not look like suffering a rare home upset … especially against a team with nothing left to fight for and with a horrendous away record. Valencia has a huge chance to put some more distance ahead of Sevilla considering that the Andalusians play Atletico Madrid today, so I really do not think the hosts will blow this chance. They can virtually assure Champions League football with a win and I think this is exactly what will happen. Look for Valencia to assert themselves at home as usual and play dominant football from the start.
My tip will be Valencia to win … normally we should also see some goals, but if the hosts play one of their better games they can hold Sociedad scoreless (especially with Vela not in the lineup) … so I`m not too confident in the over or both to score. Correct score prediction: Valencia – Real Sociedad 2-1.
