Viitorul – Dinamo

Dorin Rotariu Viitorul Dinamo previewThis looks like an ordinary game in Romania, with fair odds, the better visiting team being a favorite at odds of approximately 2.15. Well, it`s anything but an ordinary game, and the odds are huge value on this one. They will go down for sure until Monday, when the game is scheduled. Bare with me, and you will see why.

Firstly, I should state that I am a Dinamo Bucharest fan, of course I am an experienced tipster and I am nothing but objective, but I think it`s fair that you should be aware of this fact and draw your own conclusions. Ok, that being said, moving on.

Dinamo Bucharest is the better team here. In the last 3-4 years they floated around the 5th place, fighting for european competitions. Last year they finished 6th, missing on Europa League after a very long time. They had some financial trouble and they are not a dominant force in the championship anymore, but they went through a rebuilding process this year after the ownership was changed and the squad looks pretty good, with a lot of talented youngsters, some seasoned veterans and a couple of foreign players, some good, some yet to have proven themselves. Overall, the visitors have a solid team for romanian standards. They played an abysmal game in the first round at newly promoted Timisoara (0-2), but in the second round the coach changed the starting 11 and the team looked brilliant against one of the best teams in Romania, Vaslui (2-0). After only two games it`s hard to say which is the real Dinamo, the one in the first round or the one in the second round. The probable scenario is somewhere in between. The certain thing is that George Multescu, the manager, will field pretty much the same first eleven as he did in the last round, with many young, talented and dynamic players. I have to say, the Red dogs do not have the best coach, but this is not something that will make a difference in one particular game, especially not this one.

Viitorul is owned by former Romanian great midfielder Gheorghe Hagi. This team is part of his youth academy and has the purpose to promote players from the youth ranks, give them some senior experience and then sell them. They have no tradition and absolutely no fans. They barely avoided relegation last season after some dubious matches and this season they are much weaker after losing their best two players, by far (Iancu – Steaua, Chitu – Valenciennes). They played horrible in the first two rounds, confirming the low-quality they have this season.

Dinamo Bucharest fansAs Viitorul is one of the worst 2-3 teams in the league and Dinamo is better and looking in-form, I would say this would be a solid bet in these circumstances. But here comes the good part: Viitorul hosts this match, but they play their home games in Chiajna, not having a decent stadium to play on in the vicinity of Constanta. Chiajna is at a 5 minute drive from Bucharest, it`s basically a Bucharest neighborhood, over 250 kilometers away from Constanta. When Dinamo played the local team here in Chiajna, there were alwaysΒ  about 2000 vocal supporters of the red dogs, and pretty much the whole stadium was cheering for Dinamo. Now, playing against Viitorul, it is expected that the whole arena will be filled by Dinamo fans.

Basically, Dinamo plays this match at home. It is a pitch they have played on many times, they are in their home-town, they will have the fans cheering for them. In these conditions, the odds are an absolute joke, as they should be somewhere around 1.45, 1.50. As I said, Dinamo is way better, they are still a top 5 team in Romania and with this youngsters in the squad there is no place for complacency. Viitorul will go ‘all out defense’ today, but they don`t have the quality to resits a whole game without conceding against decent teams. Even if the Red Dogs don`t bring their best display, they should be able to take care of Viitorul, which is very poor this season. A huge value bet, and I have to go with maximum stakes on this one.
