Vitesse – Heerenveen

Vitesse finally managed to get a win in an official match last week against Excelsior, 3-1. It was a huge victory for a side that previously went 13 games without a win, an absolutely incredible bad run considering that before that Vitesse actually hoped to win the title last year.

Today’s hosts played good football against Excelsior but they are still second to last in the Eredivisie … 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses … and their problems are far from over. Vitesse just can’t seem to keep a consistent rhythm during games … they dominate for 20 minutes, than they suddenly start to play chaotic football and are nowhere to be found on the pitch. Vitesse proved to be very vulnerable against teams that are offensive and can put pressure, because their defense has moments of blackout and the offense is not good enough to make up for that. Coach Bosz can’t count on Kashia and Traore vs. Heerenveen.

The visitors have a very good start in Eredivisie, 4th place after 5 rounds but most importantly Heerenveen has 3 wins in a row. Last round it was a 1-0 victory at Alkmaar. Heerenveen is traditionally  a very attacking team … but this season they have surprised with good defense, conceding only 4 goals in 5 matches … which actually means they have the best defense in Eredivisie now. Sam Larsson is the only unavailable player for Heerenveen ahead of this match.

No way Vitesse can get odds of 1.70vs. Heerenveen after just getting the first win in 14 games and against a mediocre opponent. There is just no logic for these odds … especially considering that Heerenveen is a very good team and in fantastic form with 3 consecutive wins. The visitors are the better and more consistent side at the moment, they play good football, while Vitesse has a long way ahead before being considered a decent side. Hosts have struggled with consistency big time and this is a major handicap vs. an in-form team … it-s unlikely they can play 2 good matches in a row … watching their games you can see there is something wrong there, maybe in the locker room. Last time the two teams met was 6 moths ago at the same venue … it ended a 2-2 draw.
