The Washington Wizards will attempt to keep the Eastern Conference semifinal series alive, as they trail 3-2 after losing Game 5 in Boston.

The Wizards (4th seed) looked to be the team with the momentum after destroying Boston twice in Washington to tie the series at 2-2, but once they got back on the road they returned to their wasteful ways – shooting horrible percentages from the field and getting blown out by 22 points. The Wizards will hope that returning at home will have the usual effect, as they have been incomparably better in DC than on the road this season.

Boston (1rd seed) started strong in Game 5 and never looked back, prompting fans and analyst to suggest that they have one foot in the East finals. However, such presumptions assumptions have been made before in this series, as each team looked so much better than the other when playing at home. The Celtics will now face the challenge of playing in DC, where they were nowhere near competitive in any game this season.

This will be my 4th prediction on this series, having won the previous three, and my pick will be mostly based on the same very important factor – home court advantage. Both teams are excellent at home, particularly Washington, a team that performs a perfect impression of Jekyll & Hyde in their home and away performances.

Aside from Game 2, when Washington went to overtime in Boston (but still lost by 10), each team utterly dominated at home – and this trend actually started in the regular season. The two teams now met 9 times this season and there was not a single win on the road. What`s more, each team won their home games by 8 or more points. The Wizards won their 4 home games against Boston this season (regular + playoffs) by 25, 15, 27 and 19 points!

The Celtics destroyed the Wizards in Game 5 a few days ago, but I expect the roles to be reversed again as the series goes back to DC. Expect Boston’s role players to struggle on the road again, while Washington will go back to looking like one of the best teams in the NBA, with their own role players hitting shots and playing well.
