Wizards – Thunder

Wizards Thunder betting preview

The Washington Wizards will try to continue their excellent run of form, as they prepare to host Russel Westbrook’s Oklahoma City Thunder at Verizon Center.

Washington (32-21, 23-7 home) is pumping on all cylinders right now, winning 9 of the last 10 games, a run that helped them climb up to the 3rd place in the Eastern Conference. Their only loss was in overtime at home against Cleveland Cavaliers, a game Washington had on lock until Lebron James hit a lucky buzzer beater in regular time – that was also Washington’s only home loss in the last 19 games at the Verizon Center!

The Thunder (31-24, 12-16 away) are on the back of a 16 point home loss against the Warriors Saturday night, in an emotional game that saw Durant return to Oklahoma City as an opponent. The Thunder tried their best but they simply did not have enough talent to compete. The team is 4-6 in the last 10 games and fell to the 7th place in the West.

Washington is playing some of the best basketball in the league right now, on the back of some stellar performances by John Wall. They have been incredibly consistent at home, where they won 18 out of the last 19, but could have (should have) won all of the last 19!

I like a Wizards win here, they are the (slightly) better team and are in excellent form, while OKC is not playing so good recently. Home court advantage should definitely be a massive difference maker as well.

Another thing that works in Washington’s favor could be the matchup. OKC’s whole gameplan relies on Russell Westbrook, but he will have a tough time here against another elite point guard, John Wall. If Wall manages to limit Westbrook’s impact that will be trouble for OKC, as they have nobody else to go to. Wizards on the other hand do have people who can take the load if Wall can`t dominate against Westbrook.

John Wall did sit out Sunday’s practice for Washington with minor ankle problems, but he`s fully expected to start this game.

The point spread seems to be pretty low here – I don`t particularly expect this game to be a blowout, but I do expect the Wizards to slowly pull ahead and eventually win it by a margin of about 8 – 15 points.

My tip is Washington to cover the 4,5 points handicap. Prediction: Washington Wizards – Oklahoma City Thunder 118 – 106.
