West Ham – Man Utd

West Ham Manchester United betting preview

Tuesday night football in England, with West Ham and Manchester United squaring off in a match counting for the 37th round of the Premier League. It will be the last match West Ham plays at Boleyn Ground, as they will move to the Olympic Stadium next season.

West Ham’s shock 1-4 defeat at home to Swansea over the weekend means that the Hammers are now out of the Top 4 fight and that might be a blow to their morale. Still, West Ham has to fight for a Europa League position, which is currently a dogfight between 3 teams and depends on the winners of FA Cup and Europa League. West Ham will want a win here in order to maximize their chances.

After Manchester City was held to a 2-2 draw by Arsenal on Sunday, Manchester United now finds itself in a somewhat unexpected position – if the Devils win their last two matches, they will play Champions League football next year. United will definitely come into this match pumped up and their recent results will give them hope they can pull off a victory. Despite not playing too well, United has 5 wins and 1 draw in the last 6 matches, including a 1-0 result at Norwich on Saturday.

Team news & lineups:

West Ham will be without keeper Adrian, while Manchester United will miss Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Darmian, Keane and Shaw, while Jones and Martial are doubtful.

West Ham United: Randolph – Tomkins, Ogbonna, Reid, Cresswell – Noble, Kouyate – Antonio, Lanzini, Payet – Carroll

Manchester United: De Gea – Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Rojo – Carrick, Herrera – Lingard, Rooney, Mata – Rashford

West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Swansea on Saturday seems to have been an accident – after all, is was only the second loss for the Hammers in the last 15 matches. But still, it showed yet again how poor West Ham’s defense is. The hosts kept a single clean sheet since the 2nd of March and allowed no less than 19 goals in their last 10 matches. Their offense always came to the rescue, as they scored 21 times in these last 10 games – but it wasn`t enough vs Swansea.

West Ham will want to leave Boleyn Ground with a big result and they need the win in order to play Europa League football next season. It`s safe to assume they will play their usual offensive brand of football. Manchester United scraped a lot of close results lately and didn`t look particularly dangerous up front, but all in all they did score once or twice in all of their last 6 matches. The Devils must win this match, so Van Gaal needs to take some extra risks.

The previous meeting between the two teams took place one month ago at the same ground and Manchester United won 2-1. Both sides have defensive missings today. A bet on goals really makes sense.

This should be an open game with over 2,5 goals and both teams to score. I will go with over 2,5 goals because of much better odds – I don`t think the risk of a 1-1 draw is high enough to warrant such a high difference in odds (from 2.00 to 1.75). Hell, if you pick both options at the same time the odds are barely 2.15 and it`s not like 3-0 or 0-3 is impossible with these two sides. All of West Ham’s last 9 matches saw over 2,5 goals, so that is my tip here as well. Prediction: West Ham United – Manchester United 2-2.

Pick: over 2,5 goals
Odds: 2.00 @ Bwin
Stake: 9
Possible profit: 9
Event date: 10 May
