Arsenal and Manchester United square off in a highly anticipated Premier League clash. Implications at the top of the table will be massive, but this might not stop the two rivals to go for it at Emirates.
Arsenal pretty much blew their Champions League campaign with the 2-3 home loss to Olympiakos, after previously falling 1-2 in Zagreb. The start of the season in the Premier League hasn’t been particularly exciting either, but due to all big clubs struggling more or less, Arsenal can tie Manchester United for the second place with a win today, getting within 2 points of leaders Man City in the process. Truth is that Arsenal lost 3 out of the last 5 matches, conceding 10 goals in the process and the “Wenger Out Brigade” is back at the Emirates – with the legendary manager coming under pressure.
United will top the league if they manage to win this match and Van Gaal’s side will be confident given their recent form. The Devils won 4 matches on the spin in all competitions, scoring 2 or more goals in each of those outings. However, despite the good form and overall good results, Manchester United hasn`t been special so far this season and there are still question marks about them being able to mount a serious title challenge.

Arsenal has the usual injury list – Wilshere, Welbeck, Arteta and Rosicky continue to miss out, with Flamini highly doubtful and Cech slightly doubtful. The big news however is that Koscielny got hurt and will miss this game. United will have to do without Shaw and Rojo.

Arsenal struggled defensively lately and Koscielny’s absence will be huge, as the Mertesacker – Gabriel partnership does not inspire confidence. The German is not in his best form, so Manchester United will look to exploit that. The Devils have been very competent in creating chances and will feel confident about finding the net against an Arsenal side that has leaked a lot of goals recently. On the other hand, the Gunners are also expected to score 1 or 2 goals at home.
The stakes are high in this one and surely there will be some caution from both managers, but Arsenal really can`t afford to play for the draw here and will have to take some risks. I expect a generally positive approach from both sides and we should have a classic Premier League clash with at least a couple of goals. Both sides have key missings in defense. Frankly speaking, I am more afraid that Arsenal does not score .
If Giroud does not play, Arsenal will have many offensive problems .And I do not think that Alexis can figure out all these problems.
