Borussia Dortmund hosts Arsenal at Signal Iduna Park in probably the most highly rated clash of the first matchday in Champions League.
I like how Dortmund is looking this year even without Lewandowski … Ramos and Immobile are two very good players to take his place and Klopp just signed back Kagawa from United, so Borussia will have a successful season for sure. But for the moment it seems Dortmund suffers a bit on the defensive end – except the Supercup with Bayern (2-0) they allowed at least a goal in all other 4 matches. In Bundesliga they started with 0-2 home loss to Leverkusen and than got 2 unconvincing wins vs. Augsburg and Freiburg … suffered at times vs. these teams and had moments of chaos at the back. For this game Dortmund will miss a lot of important players: Hummels (not 100% but likely won`t play), Reus, Gundogan, Sahin, Kirch, Blaszczykovski and Ji.

Arsenal at the moment looks like a small uncertainty … after all those signings (Sanchez, Welbek, Chambers, Debuchy) the jury is still our whether Arsenal will fight for trophies or again have a mediocre year. So far Arsenal had some great performances and some mediocre ones … but the main thing is that they are undefeated in this season so that is very good news. Arsenal comes after 2-2 draw with City, played great football and looks a team in good form and with increasing level. Walcott, Giroud, Debuchy, Monreal and Gnabry will not be in the lineup today. Seems Wenger will bench Ozil after his poor performances.

Dortmund and Arsenal met last season in UCL and split the victories … each team winning away. I think Arsenal has a good chance to repeat the performance and win in Germany or at least draw. Dortmund in my opinion is not yet in top form and you can see this from their Bundesliga games when they were not impressive. They will always be dangerous in Champions League at home but Arsenal has a better foothold in this season, is playing football at a higher intensity and is undefeated. I doubt Dortmund has the stability right now to manage what Manchester City (twice) or Everton could not do – beat Arsenal. My tip will be Arsenal +0,5 handicap … maybe we will also see a couple of goals but over 2,5 goals is too risky for me. Correct score prediction: Borussia Dortmund – Arsenal 1-2.
