Carpi – Torino

Fabio Quagliarella Torino goal

Carpi and Torino will open the 7th round of the Italian Serie A in Modena, with the hosts still looking for their first win, while Torino will aim to secure its current Top 3 spot.

Carpi’s debut in the Serie A wasn’t pretty, with the minnows losing 2-5 to Sampdoria, but they have steadily improved, culminating with a 0-0 draw against Napoli two rounds ago. However, it was the only game in which Carpi kept a cleen sheet and they could not build on that result, losing 5-1 to Roma last weekend. The loss determined a somewhat peculiar change of manager 4 days ago, which is not expected to have a good effect. The hosts are dead last in the Serie A with just 2 points in 6 games and their goal difference of 6-15 is a huge reason of concern for the defensive aspect of the game.

AC Torino is on the back of a 2-1 home win over Palermo, marking the 5th victory in 7 matches in all competitions for the visitors this season and propelling them to the 3rd place in the Serie A. Torino is playing a brand of attractive football right now, similar to what they showed us in the last years and the visiting side scored at least 2 goals in 6 of the 7 matches played this season – 6 in Serie A and one in the Coppa Italia.

Team news & lineups:

Marrone, Benussi, Spolli, Lollo and probably Mbakogu will be out for Carpi, while Torino won`t be able to count on Peres, Baselli, Avelar, Molinaro, Obi, Maksimovic and Farnerud.

Carpi: Brkic – Bubnjic, Zaccardo, Gagliolo – Letizia, Bianco, Fedele, Cofie, Silva – Ryder Matos, Borriello

Torino: Padelli – Bovo, Glik, Moretti – Zappacosta, Benassi, Vives, Acquah, Silva – Quagliarela, Belotti

Torino’s football is really pleasant to the eye, goal scoring is not a problem for them and they will surely eye this game as one in which they can extend their run of scoring 2 or more goals. Carpi’s defense have been dreadful so far so expect Torino to bang in a couple, but I also expect Carpi to score. They are slowly getting used to the Serie A and after frustrating Napoli in the last home outing, they definitely have a fighting chance to get a result today as well – especially looking at Torino’s weakened lineup, with all those injuries and suspensions.

My tip is over 2,25 goals to be scored. Carpi’s managerial change brings a bit of uncertainty into this clash, but I expect reasonably entertaining football and we should see at least three goals in Modena. Odds on the under / over market are great. Prediction: Carpi – Torino 2-2.
