His last two tournaments saw him win the Rome challenger and qualify for the main draw in Nice. He has wins over guys like Rosol or Gimeno Traver this year on the European clay. Here in Paris, Edmund defeated Basilashvili 7-6 6-7 7-6 6-1 in the first round, playing tennis at a decent level.

This will be the first meeting between Isner and Edmund. While it`s difficult to judge the styles matchup, one definite fact is the advantage Edmund will get from playing on clay. Sure, Isner proved over the years that despite mostly relying on his serve, he can play very well on the red dirt. However, Edmund is a pure clay courter (strange for a Brit), posting a fantastic 114-36 career win-loss record on the surface at all levels.
Isner hasn`t been himself for quite some time and after having missed virtually all the European clay court season, he was never expected to do much damage at Roland Garros. His performance in the first round certainly did not help change this opinion.
Edmund on the other hand is in great shape, he has steadily improved over the past year, is currently in excellent form and is better suited for the clay court surface than Isner. Sure, he is still unproved against the top guys and in Grand Slams – that will be a challenge for him today, but Isner isn`t exactly looking like a top guy right now.
