Juventus – Bologna

Juventus will be keen to get back on track in the Serie A and meeting last placed Bologna might be the best opportunity for “The Old Lady” to improve on the poor domestic form.

Juve is on the back of a 2-0 win against Sevilla, gaining 6 points in two difficult Champions League matches, but in Serie A the story has been totally different for Juve. The hosts are incredibly sitting on the 15th place, 10 points behind Fiorentina and Inter and with a single win in 6 rounds – but still winless at home. In the previous two domestic matches Juventus lost 2-1 at Napoli and was held to a 1-1 draw by Frosinone in Torino.

However, all is not lost for Juve, particularly due to the fact that other contenders like Roma or Napoli also lost crucial points. Fiorentina, Inter, Torino or Chievo are unlikely to keep up the good form for the whole season, so Juve can still very much win the league – but they need to get going right away.

Bologna is in deep trouble, with the visitors currently dead last int he Serie A after losing 5 of the first 6 matches – the only win being a hard fought and arguably undeserved 1-0 at home against minnows Frosinone. In the last away game Bologna lost 2-0 at Fiorentina, resisting 70 minutes with a 0-0 score, but without ever troubling the current league leaders. Last weekend it was another loss, 1-2 at home against Udinese.

Juve is starting to get players back from injury and they will field the best available lineup today. However, Lichtsteiner, Mandzukic, Marchisio and Caceres are still out, while Sturaro is doubtful. Bologna will have to do without Giaccherini and Donsah.

The last match played at home by Juventus in Serie A was a 1-1 draw against Frosinone, so Juve is not a guaranteed winner against any side in the Serie A – even this horrible Bologna side. But that result against Frosinone came in a match when Juve was decimated by injuries and also rested some key players – and these two facts contributed to many of Juve’s poor Serie A results.

This time around, the hosts will not make anymore experiments, they know that a win is mandatory and will field the best lineup. Juventus remained a top team, they proved it in the Champions League and with full focus and a solid starting 11 they should win this. Bologna is in a really bad spot and for all these reasons I believe that this time an upset against Juve will not happen anymore.
