Marseille – Caen

Marseille Caen betting previewOlympique Marseille will welcome Caen in Friday night football in Ligue 1.

Marseille are usually a strong team when it comes to attack. Bielsa’s philosophy and some good players like Gignac, Batsuhayi, Payet, Thauvin and Ayew, but also the offensive apetite of fullbacks like Dja Dje Dje or midfielder Imbula make Marseille one of the most spectacular teams so far. In fact, the only team that averages more goals in its games than Marseille (2.88) is Caen (2.96). So this should be an overish game, but i beg to differ.

The first reason is what i consider to be bad form of some of the players, like Gignac and Payet. The second reason is leaving Thauvin on the bench in detriment of new-signing Ocampos (came in the winter break from Monaco). Ocampos is a more disciplined player but is nowhere near Thauvin in terms of offensive talent. Thauvin is pure class and leaving him on the bench will have a big impact on the game.

The 3rd reason is the fact that Caen are the most in-form team in France, with 4 wins and 1 draw in the last 5 games. They even managed a 2-2 vs Paris SG (coming back from 2-0 to equalise PSG who were playing in 10 men the last minutes). Knowing the opponent is red-hot will make OM more cautious, and they will not throw themselves in attack.

I expect less goals than the bookies do, so i will bet on under 3 goals, with 8 units staked on this prediction. The odds of 1.85 given by Pinnacle for this bet are very tasty indeed. Good Luck!

Pick: under 3 goals
Odds: 1.85 @ Pinnacle
Stake: 8
Possible profit: 6.8
Event date: 27 February
