Swansea – Arsenal

Mesut Ozil Arsenal celebration

Arsenal fact a must win game in Wales against Swansea, as Wenger’s side has currently slipped outside the Premier League Top 4.

Swansea hired a new manager in Paul Clement after their abysmal display this season, but he hasn`t started well with a 0-2 win against Hull City in the FA Cup. Swansea is currently 19th in the Premier League, they lost 5 of their last 6 matches and their defense has been simply atrocious (the worst in the Premier League). As such, Paul Clement will have his work cut out for him and it definitely looks highly unlikely that the new manager will be able to change much in his first few weeks at the helm.

Arsenal is not playing great lately, but even so the Gunners were able to record 3 wins and 1 draw in their last 4 matches in all competitions. Unfortunately for Arsenal, their rivals did not put a foot wrong, so Wenger’s team has been unable to climb in the standings. Arsenal is currently on the 5th place, 8 points behind league leaders Chelsea but only 1 point behind 3rd placed Tottenham.

Team news & lineups:

Swansea will miss Narsingh, Taylor, Montero and possibly Barrow (who was their best man in the previous clash with Arsenal). The Gunners will have to do without Koscielny, Cazorla, Walcott, Coquelin, Welbeck, Debuchy, Elneny, Mertesacker and probably Bellerin as well. Gibbs is doubtful. It remains to be seen if Wenger will prefer to send Giroud or Alexis up front.

Swansea: Fabianski – Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Kingsley – Britton, Cork, Fer – Sigurdsson, Routledge – Llorente

Arsenal: Cech – Gabriel, Holding, Mustafi, Monreal – Xhaka, Ramsey – Perez, Ozil, Oxlade-Chamberlain (Giroud) – Sanchez

This is definitely a must win game for Arsenal and it is a great opportunity as well, as all other big clubs face tricky games this weekend. Despite Arsenal dealing with the usual injury list, I believe they will not blow their title chances against one of the worst teams in the league in Swansea. This really has the potential to be a season breaker for Arsenal if they do not win, so expect full focus and determination.

Swansea is known as a club that usually gives Arsenal headaches (or at least used to), but that is only true for games played at the Emirates. Arsenal has always been able to take care of Swansea in Wales. They won 3-0 last season and won 3 of the last 4 road H2H games against Swansea overall. Earlier this season it was an unimpressive 3-2 victory at home for the Gunners.

With Swansea playing dirt poor at the moment, with their abysmal defensive display and with their poor home H2H record against Arsenal, I believe they will lose this game rather clearly. Swansea does not have the ability to park the bus and defend, the usual tactic that can frustrate Arsenal. I doubt the Welsh side can outscore the Gunners, so that match up makes me believe this will be a routine away win.

My tip is Arsenal to cover the 1 goal asian handicap. Prediction: Swansea – Arsenal 0-2.
