For the Vuelta a Andalucia General Classification I have Tejay Van Gardener to win.
This race will feature 5 stages. The general classification will most likely be decided in the last 2: a 21 kilometers long Time Trial and a mountain stage with a big climb at the end. Van Garderen seems like the perfect candidate for this one considering his great Time Trial skill and climbing ability.
The penultimate stage will be the time trial and I hope Tejay will be first in the GC after that stage. That would mean everyone would need to gain time on the final climb but that will not be easy at all. The climb is long but the gradient is not very high at 6.3 % and this should be in his advantage. Van Garderen is not an explosive rider and likes this kind of longer but not very steep climbs.
Van Garderen showed a great level of cycling in 2015 but he had some problems with injuries that did not allowed him to get a big result in the most important race of the year Tour de France. Before his injury he was second in the standings just behind Chris Froome and it was clear that a podium position is within his grasps.
Van Garderen is very good in 1 week races. He has a lot of podiums in very important ones like Tour of Oman, Volta a Catalunya or Criterium du Dauphine. He also won Tour of California and USA Pro Challenge.
Tejay showed great form last weekend in Murcia finishing 6th. He was the strongest on the climb near the end but was caught on the descent.
