So the snooker world championship is starting and a very interesting match from the first round is between Ricky Walden and Graeme Dott.
Walden is a good snooker player and that is the best characterization I can think of. He is good, solid, not great, not exceptional. He works hard in training and at the table but lacks that wow factor. He has done well last year at the world championship and has proved to be a tough one to crack. He has a good safety play, he is a solid break builder, more than capable to win a game from one visit to the table. His long shots are not really all that good.
Graeme Dott is a former world champion and runner-up multiple times. He is one of the greats from recent years in my opinion and with just a little more strength of character he could have been one of the all time greats. He has had a difficult season so far mixing clear victories with very bad performances. He had to play qualifiers for this tournament, which I believe is actually a plus for him in this match. He already has a sense of the table is more used to the competition. Dott needs to a good run in the world championship to save his season and come back in the top 16 where he belongs and I think he can do it. He has proven that this long format of the world championships favors him. I believe it will be a tough battle but Dott has more potential and is the superior player. the -1.5 frame handicap raises the odds from already good 2.20 to 3 and one frame is more than worth this difference. I should also note that the 2.20 odd is good in itself in my opinion but with the same odds. My prediction 10-7 to Dott.
