Europa League qualification sees Romanian team Astra Giurgiu face West Ham United.
This is the first 10 unit bet for me in a while but all the signs are there as far as I am concerned. Astra is very motivated for this game, it is one o the most important games in this small team's history. Getting to the play-off or even in the group stages would mean a lot from a financial point of view for Astra. In the first round match, a 2-2 draw sees Astra qualified now even at 0-0 in this second round. To be fair, the draw came after West Ham was left in 10 men and with some luck. Astra is one of the best teams in Romania, but that does not really say much. They have some players like Budescu, who is in great form, who can make a difference. Other important players up fron can be Teixeira (the last pass man), Boldrin who has some great shooting abilities and William with good speed and crosses. Astra biggest problems come from the defensive, even if on paper the names sound good: Gerardo and Gaman have a lot of experience and they should rise to a challenge here.
West Ham United is a Premier League Team meaning a big challenge for any team in Romania. West Ham is actually a good team with a lot of strong players, worth tens of millions. But we won't see them today. West Ham are resting all their star players for the week-end match against Arsenal. They are basically treating this match as a friendly. None of the players that were in the first squad in the first leg are in Romania for this match. Still, that does not mean that the West Ham has brought has no value, but is lacks experience, cohesion and motivation.
Overall, Astra is going to have the better team tonight. They will be more motivated, they will be more experienced and they can even qualify at 0-0 (I don't believe that will be the case but it is an option). West Ham can probably take advantage of Astra's defensive problems on set pieces but I expect Astra to score here and even win.
