Wimbledon women's semifinals an this is an unexpected clash for many. If the second semi-final of the day was pretty much expected, this one sees two players with very few chances at the start of the tournament.
Garbine Muguruza has demonstrated her talent and potential time and time again over the last year. Personally, I did not expect her to play so well on grass, but it seems that at age 20 she can play her best tennis on any surface. She had a hard series of matches in this tournament defeating Lepchenko, Lucic Baroni, Kerber, Wosniacki and Bacsinszky to reach this point. Her power play has been on top, her hardest game by far was against Kerber, a marathon match. She uses her strength very well, her serve on grass is amazing and she can move on the court a lot better than I would have expected. Her downside is that she has little diversity in her game and she is prone to unforced errors as she tends to force some shots.
Radwanska has had a horrible year before the grass season. She fell to number 13 in the rankings after being a top 10 constant for many years. Radwanska has, in my opinion, the most diverse game on the tour. On the grass she played some god tennis and I was surprised to see that she improved her first serve considerably. She can move on the court better than almost anyone, and her shots are based on position rather than strength.
This game should boil down to Radwanska's diversity or Muguruza's power and experience. The head to head is 2-2 with Muguruza winning the last two games in 2015 on hard surface, but, as I said, Radwanska was playing bad tennis. I think this should close but I expect Radwanska to force Muguruza to hit balls just out of position and to force errors. My prediction: Radwanska to win in three sets.
