Rolland Garros first round sees local favorite Adrian Mannarino take on veteran Jurgen Melzer.
Mannarino, currently ranked 32 in the world is a solid player. At 26 years of age he has not shown the potential to take a grand slam for example but he is a decent player who can play a solid game. He has had a bad clay court season with only three wins and four losses.
To be honest, this is more a bet against Melzer than it is on Mannarino. Melzer has reached 34 years of age is currently 110 in the world. His talent is still very much still there but his consistency and phisical ability are just not what they used to be. He has been playing a lot of doubles with a lot of success and left the single scene on kind of a back burner. Melzer has very good technique and if he was 5 years younger I would have no problem betting on him in this match. But Mannarino will try to keep the ball in play as much as possible and if he manages to do that and keep the game going I just don't think that Melzer can keep up. If Melzer doesn't take this in three sets, which I believe is very unlikely, Mannarino should win this even if it goes the distance. My prediction Mannarino to win in 4 sets.
