Wozniacki – Pliskova

The Miami WTA tournament makes me anxious and I doubt I felt this way for a womens tournament in the past. Wozniacki, no. 14 and former no. 1, will take on no. 3 and WTA and 1st in the Race to Singapore, Karloina Pliskova.

To be honest I can`t really understand the odds here, but I guess the mass-bettors are making this price as it is. Most of them bet on rankings and not on anything else.

Wozniacki leads the H2H 3-1 and all of the matches have been played on hard courts. The first 3 meetings ended with a deciding set and all of them won by the Danish girl. Last direct meeting was in Doha this year where Karo won it in straight 6-3 6-4.

Conditions in Miami are special, very hot and humid … high bounce of ball and slow surface. These conditions favor for sure Wozniacki. She won here against Lepchenko, Cirstea, Muguruza (1-0 ret.) and Safarova without losing a set.

On the other side, Pliskova also won her 4 matches here in straight sets: Brengle, Putintseva, Strycova and Lucic. I saw her last 2 matches and she was at best mediocre and the only thing that saved her was the weakness of her opponents.

Both players have good results this year, Woz has a 22/6 record in 2017, while Pliskova has a 21/3 record in 2017. The match-up, the conditions and pure form shown in the last 4 matches make me believe that Woz should have been favorite. 2.30 offered by Pinnacle is just something very good to take and I am happy to jump on it with a bet on Wozniacki.

I say back Caroline Wozniacki to win this match. I am taking my bet one day early because the odds may very well drop (already going down).
