Bouchard – Halep

Eugenie Bouchard Simona Halep betting previewArguably the most in form players in this years’ womens Wimbledon will square off on Center Court in the second semifinal of the day. Bouchard and Halep can easily be regarded as the most consistent players over the last few months as well.

Eugenie Bouchard played incredible tennis this season and the emerging Canadian is the only player on the WTA tour to reach the semifinals in all 3 Grand Slams this year. She will try to advance to her first final here at Wimbledon and surely she must fancy her chances. Bouchard did not lose a set so far, despite meeting very strong opposition in the form of Petkovic, Kerber, Cornet (in fantastic form) or even old grass court specialist Hantuchova. Eugenie’s tactics and style, with excellent form and offensive powershots, suit grass perfectly. She also improved her movement a lot, we could see in Roland Garros semifinals the way she was able to defend against Sharapova.

Honestly I did not expect Simona Halep to reach the semifinals here at SW19, she doesn`t really have the best tennis for grass courts and she lacked experience on the surface as well, having never advanced past the second round in Wimbledon in 3 attempts. However, Halep is a different animal this year and she mantained her Roland Garros form (reached the final) to power her way trough the draw, even if it was a really accessible one. Halep lost a set with Tsurenko in the 2nd round and the only decent opponent she met was Lisicki. Simona easily routed the German 6-4 6-0 in the quarters, but it must be said that Lisicki was far from her best: very erratic and clearly not at 100% physically – she came into the match with shoulder problems and her serve (her main asset) was slower than Halep’s, who does not excel at all in this department.

Halep won the only meeting between the two, a tight three setter this year at Roland Garros. However, on grass Bouchard will feel she has the edge – her power game is perfect for the surface, while Halep’s only advantage on grass is her movement. Shot wise, she does not have the required power, she can`t play at the net either.

The bookies are favoring Halep here and the odds are going down big time on the Romanian, so it appears the gerneral public is on her back. I strongly disagree. Halep and Bouchard are very similar in terms of overall quality, but the Canadian is better adapted on grass, which will make a huge difference. She also played much better tennis this tournament, with Halep entering this game after a very easy draw, not being tested at all – her toughest opponent being a slightly injured Lisicki. Expect the offensive Bouchard to attack on Halep’s weak second serve just like Sharapova did in the Roland Garros final, while the Canadian should be able to secure most of her service games thanks to her excellent serve. Halep traditionally has problems against big hitters so I see no way that she could be a favorite against Bouchard on the green. I believe whoever wins this will also prevail in the final, and I`m confident it will be the Canadian who will win. The odds are fantastic and I will go with maximum stakes on this bet. My tip is Bouchard to win. Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard – Simona Halep 6-4 7-6.

  1. i Agree with your tip, i’ve watched bouchard vs kerber and she definitely has the serve and and the forehand to smash halep, her obly problem and an aspect where i rate halep better might be the mental side of the game, bouchard has the will and fight in here but sometimes she gets too affected by missed shots. halep match versus lisicki was not relevant lisicki collapsed and she was useless

  2. There is no way Halep could lose this match. Anyone who would like to lose some bucks, go on and bet on Bouchard. This tip is really a suicidal one: “go with maximum stakes on this bet”… gosh…

    • I said “I will go”, it`s not like I have started a campaign forcing people to bet on Halep with 10 units. I think that, whatever happens, my input is more realistic than “there`s no way Halep will lose this match”.

  3. This specialist seems got her pick wrong every time I checked, including this year’s french open final between Sharapova and Halep and the past semifinal between Kovitova and Safarova. She always suggest you assertively to pick the underdog for higher odds gosh I start to suspect she is working for the bookies to mislead the gamblers.

    • first, I am a “He”. Secondly, I lost the womens’ final but I covered the loss (and a little bit extra profit if I recall) with the mens’ final. My losses came from football rather then tennis. Maybe you should check this out to see that I accurately predicted the Mens Wimbledon quarters prior to the tournament: https://www.betdistrict.com/wimbledon-preview-and-analysis-can-federer-win – of course, that does not count for anyone, it`s only the losses that count.

Of course I deserve criticism, but don`t be misleading. You have arguments to criticize me fairly.

    • Sorry, this prediction is actually fairly good, even the score. I think Bouchard will win the final unless Kovitova could do something crazy! Look forward to your analysis of the final!

    • No problem mate, I deserve the criticism for poor performances lately. I`m just upset when the reasons for criticism are unfair. At first glance I believe Bouchard will win too, but I`ll need to analyze it further. Thanks for giving me credit for this one.
