Milan – Roma

Milan Roma betting previewRoma is under pressure to get a result at San Siro after drawing 4 of their last 5 matches in the Serie A. However, the Rossoneri seem to be improving lately and will surely give the Giallorossi a run for their money. The odds suggest Milan is the favorite, but this is surely questionable at least.

Milan had one of the worst season starts in history, but in the last few weeks they seem to have recovered a little bit, also gaining passage to the Champions League last 16. Nevertheless, Milan is still far from impressive, as their improved form can only be dubbed that way compared to the horrific performances they had in the first part of the season. Realistically, Milan still has only 2 wins in the last 11 matches in all competitions and the Rossonerri are on the back of 2 consecutive draws against Livorno and Ajax. Milan`s form is hardly something to shout about.

Roma was very close to blowing their championship hopes after 4 consecutive draws to follow the 10 consecutive wins to start the season, but they recovered well to defeat Fiorentina at home last round, confirming their excellent play against top sides. The Giallorossi struggled against lowly, defensive teams lately, also being hit by an injury crisis in attack (Gervinho, Totti), but they performed excellent against the solid teams in the Serie A, defeating Inter (away), Napoli and Fiorentina (home) so far. Roma is still undefeated this season and their defense is rock-solid, with just 5 goals conceded. A win would see the visitors closing the gap to Juventus to three points.

Team news & lineups

Milan still has a lot of injuries, but they will get El Shaarawy back and he will likely start. Roma can finally count on Totti again, as he should be fit enough to carry 60-70 minutes (though he might start on the bench). The visitors will miss Balzaretti, Pjanic and most likely Borrielo.

Milan: Abbiati – De Sciglio, Zapata, Mexes, Constant – Montolivo, De Jong, Muntari – Kaka – El Shaarawy, Balotelli

Roma: De Sanctis – Maicon, Benatia, Burdisso, Dodo – Bradley, De Rossi, Strootman – Florenzi, Totti, Gervinho

Even though Milan is playing at home, the odds on them are a joke in my opinion, since Milan has 2 wins in 11 matches and this record is actually considered a big improvement. Roma has always been a dangerous opponent to the Rossonerri, especially in December, rarely losing against Milan in this time of the year.

Milan is still struggling and Roma is still undefeated, so I will go with the visitors here. The return of Totti will make a big difference, also considering that Gervinho also is at full fitness with a couple of matches under his belt. I can see Rudi Garcia outsmarting Allegri tactically and Roma should be able to control the flow of the game. It will be really hard for a chaotic Milan side to break down a team with impecable chemistry and tactical approach, plus an apparently impenetrable defensive setup. A draw looks to be the best result that the hosts can hope for here, but my educated guess is Roma will not miss the chance to stay close to Juventus, ending up with a win. My prediction is Roma to cover the 0,25 asian handicap at some excellent odds (which are dropping by the way). AC Milan – AS Roma 0-1.
