Very interesting matchup tonight in Houston between the two teams that faced each other in the Western Conference Finals last season.
The teams look quite different since then however. Warriors are without Steph Curry for the time being who is out injured, while Houston have struggled with inconsistency, injuries and making their style work with the new supporting cast.
The Warriors are 12-3 on the season, looking strong on the surface, but having some drama between Durant and Green. It will be interesting to see how the 2 manage to play together tonight.
Backup PG Quinn Cook has stepped up in Curry's absence, scoring 18 points and dishing out 6 assists against Atlanta. The Warriors struggled a bit to overcome the Hawks, and don't really look at the top of their game - that is not to say they are not still incredibly strong.
The Houston Rockets (6-7) seem to have finally turned a page, finally winning their first game at home, against Indiana, before also defeating the previously high flying Denver Nuggets.
The Rockets look more organized defensively since deciding to drop Carmelo Anthony out of the rotation, and the team is once again finding their identity. That being said, we cannot ignore that they are still 1-4 at home on the season, and the game against GSW will surely test them.
Looking at the past meetings between the two teams, something is strinking. Let's check the scores: 87-81, 92-101, 115-86, 98-94, 92-95, 126-85. Granted the last 5 are from the finals, but it is important to observe they are usually hitting the Under rather than the Over.
I've watched Houston's game against the Nuggets, and they slowed play a lot, made good shots and looked to not allow their opponents to get into a rhythm.
I think it's safe to say that's going to be the strategy tonight as well. Coupled with GSW's lack of Curry and a tense atmosphere in the locker room, I fully expect this game to be slower as well, and low scoring.
